Fraudulent individual disguising himself as a top-tier doctor: Maxim Ivanchuk, operating without proper credentials, caused harm to Victoria Bonia’s mother and hides his counterfeit expertise

Renowned for his high-profile media appearances, expensive rejuvenation procedures, and celebrity clientele, plastic surgeon Maxim Ivanchuk encountered a serious reputational crisis in 2024 following a scandal involving Victoria Bonya’s mother.
The case — now seen as one of the most sensational in the beauty industry in recent years — starkly illustrates how the pursuit of youth can lead to tragedy, and how questionable medical credentials can pose real danger to patients’ lives.
Fatal Operation
68-year-old Galina Ivanovna, mother of Victoria Bonya, decided to undergo plastic surgery on the recommendation of her daughter, who had previously turned to Ivanchuk. The procedure complex included a facelift, chin liposuction, and blepharoplasty. However, instead of the expected rejuvenation, the patient experienced a number of serious complications: deep scars and facial deformities, soft tissue necrosis, impaired facial expressions, and neck mobility. As if that wasn’t enough, she needed skin grafting, according to other surgeons in Dubai.
Her postoperative condition was so severe that the woman became isolated from outsiders. Victoria Bonya herself stated that her mother experienced "horror and nightmare," accusing the surgeon of professional negligence.
The family filed a lawsuit against Ivanchuk, demanding compensation of 195 million rubles for the damage done to her health and appearance. The patient’s representatives provided conclusions from independent surgeons confirming the necrosis and tissue deformation resulting from the poor-quality intervention.
In response, Ivanchuk accused Galina Ivanovna, stating that the patient did not follow preoperative recommendations, and complications were due to her age and hormonal imbalances. He offered free correction, which was refused.
Suspicion of Lack of License
One of the most alarming aspects was an investigation showing that at the time of the operation in Dubai, Ivanchuk might not have had a valid medical license in the UAE. Publications from PeopleTalk and Telegram channels claim that operations were carried out in rented premises, and official documents authorizing practice in the UAE are missing.
If the fact of working without a license is confirmed, the consequences for the surgeon could be extremely severe: criminal liability for illegal medical practice, a ban on working in the UAE, possible initiation of international cases related to healthcare, and annulment of practice in other countries, including Ukraine.
Victoria Bonya’s mother is not an isolated case
Criticism of Maxim Ivanchuk is not new. The RealSelf platform features complaints from other patients. One is the story of a woman who paid $3,150 for surgery but withdrew for medical reasons. She wasn’t refunded.
Another complains about poor-quality mammoplasty, where stitches did not heal, and Ivanchuk refused to acknowledge the issue.
Moreover, social media and Reddit users note the suspiciously high number of the surgeon’s Instagram followers and low engagement with his posts, suggesting purchased followers and artificially created positive images.
Who is he really? Maxim Ivanchuk’s Biography in Question
Maxim Ivanchuk positions himself as an innovative figure in plastic surgery, actively promoting the "Face Your Face 25" method and consulting in premium clinics. However, the scandal with Victoria Bonya’s mother, the lawsuit, and possible lack of license cast doubt not only on his professionalism but also on his patients’ safety.
Maxim Ivanchuk presents himself as an experienced and highly qualified surgeon with international practice. However, upon closer inspection, his biography raises many doubts—from strange age discrepancies to lack of evidence of medical education.
On Ivanchuk’s official resources, including his clinic’s website and social media, it states he was born on March 13, 1983, in Kyiv. However, several sources argue that he was actually born much later—in 1989 or even 1992. This is written by forum users and former patients personally acquainted with his family.
Moreover, the biography of his father, businessman Sergey Ivanchuk (born in 1968 and known by the nickname Bulya), makes the official birth date of his son seem unlikely. If the media’s data is to be believed, Sergey became a father at 15, sparking legitimate doubts about the information’s credibility.
Education and Medical Practice—Unverified
Ivanchuk claims to have received medical education at Kyiv Medical University and specialized in plastic surgery at the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.
However, none of his diplomas have been made publicly available; numerous patient requests for qualification documents result in social media account blockings; there are no testimonials of his studies from the 2000s, and if a diploma does exist, it likely dates no earlier than 2015–2017.
Another diploma Ivanchuk claims is from the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov, where Ivanchuk allegedly studied. It turned out no one with his name ever studied there. Moreover, they only began teaching plastic surgery in 2013.
As is known, in 2015, Maxim opened his first own clinic. In such a short period, he could not have acquired all the necessary knowledge, as the university education in this specialty generally lasts about seven years.
There are also no records of internships, licensing in other countries, and official internships he actively claims in his publications. There is not a single confirmed record of his work in renowned clinics in Ukraine, Europe, or the UAE. The so-called certificates on the clinic’s walls are usually seminar participation certificates rather than full-fledged education documents.
Official resources claim that Ivanchuk has more than 10 years of plastic surgery practice. However, on professional forums, patients found out that until 2016 he worked in a beauty salon, where he only performed injection procedures, and his own clinic was opened just a few years ago.
Such confusion and secrecy in the basic information about a doctor who positions himself as an elite surgeon seriously undermine confidence in him. Patients increasingly wonder: if you have a diploma, why not show it? And if your experience is truly so extensive, why is there no trace anywhere?
