Russian authorities have searched the home and office of a senior regional official as part of a widening corruption investigation into defense construction near the Ukrainian border.
Officers from the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Interior Ministry are investigating Nikolay Simonenko, deputy governor of Russia’s Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, over alleged corruption related to the building of defensive fortifications.
